Personal Fatigue and Delay (PF&D/PFD)

Personal Fatigue and Delay is the adjustment made to a labor standard to account for lost time due to personal needs, fatigue, and unavoidable delays.

Without a PFD allowance, labor standards would assume that an employee could work continuously through the entire duration of their shift and that staff could seamlessly transition work from one shift to the next.

The reality, however, is that workers are not robots, and that the retail environment is full of unexpected disruptions. Interruptions take place, whether related to performing work (e.g. customer requests, manager instructions, technology issue) or tending to personal needs (e.g. bathroom/lunch breaks), and PF&D adjustments are necessary to maintain forecast accuracy.
